System requirements
Pentium III, 2 GB RAM and a 64 MB graphics card as minimum; the real constraint is Windows 7 support ending on November 18, 2026.
Guild Wars Afterlife runs inside Guild Wars Reforged, so the requirements that matter are Reforged's. They are 2005 requirements, lightly updated: a Pentium III, 2 GB of RAM and a 64 MB graphics card on the minimum side. Almost any computer built in the last fifteen years clears them, which is why the more important question is not "will it run" but "which Windows version is still supported".
That last point has a date attached. ArenaNet ends support for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 on November 18, 2026 — seven weeks before Afterlife launches. The requirements block still lists Windows 7, but the support notice is the newer statement.

Minimum requirements
| Component | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Processor and OS | 64-bit processor and operating system |
| OS | Microsoft Windows 7 32-bit |
| Processor | Intel Pentium III 1.0 GHz or equivalent |
| Memory | 2 GB RAM |
| Graphics | ATI Radeon 8500 or NVIDIA GeForce 3 series with 64 MB of VRAM |
| DirectX | Version 9.0 |
| Storage | 4 GB available space |
| Sound card | 16-bit sound card |
| Additional notes | Network connection required |
Two lines in that block are worth reading twice. The first says 64-bit processor and operating system; the second lists a 32-bit Windows 7 install. The store text is inconsistent, and the practical reading is that the game is a 32-bit-era client that has been repackaged — the 64-bit line is the one that matters for modern Windows.
The second is the network requirement. Guild Wars is an online game; there is no offline mode, and the DLC inherits that.
Recommended requirements
| Component | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Processor and OS | 64-bit processor and operating system |
| OS | Microsoft Windows 7 |
| Processor | Intel Pentium 4 2.0 GHz or equivalent |
| Memory | 4 GB RAM |
| Graphics | ATI Radeon 9600 or NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700 series or above |
| DirectX | Version 9.0 |
| Network | Broadband internet connection |
| Storage | 4 GB available space |
| Sound card | Sound Blaster X-Fi series |
The jump from minimum to recommended is one CPU generation and 2 GB of RAM. It shows the scale of the game's original target hardware: a 2005 office PC with a discrete graphics card.
Those numbers in 2026
A GeForce FX 5700 was a mid-range card in 2003. Any integrated graphics solution from the last decade outperforms it by a wide margin. The practical consequence is that performance is not the constraint for most players; the constraints are the operating system and, on mobile, the device.
| Your situation | What to check |
|---|---|
| Windows 10 or 11 desktop | Nothing — the game is far below modern hardware |
| Windows 7 or 8.1 | Support ends November 18, 2026; upgrade before Afterlife launches |
| Laptop with integrated graphics | Should run; the client targets 2005 hardware |
| Steam Deck | Verified for Reforged; 4 GB storage required |
| Phone or tablet | Use the mobile app; PC requirements do not apply |
Storage is the one number that has grown in practice. The listed 4 GB is the base install; a twenty-year-old game with three campaigns, plus the DLC, will use more once patched and cached. Treat 4 GB as a floor, not a budget.
The Windows 7 problem
ArenaNet's notice is explicit about what happens after November 18, 2026:
- Reforged and Guild Wars 2 will likely no longer function fully or launch successfully on unsupported Windows versions.
- Customer support will be unable to assist with technical issues originating on those operating systems.
- Future game updates will no longer be tested on Windows 7, 8 or 8.1.
The studio's recommendation is to move to Windows 10 or 11 before that date. Since Afterlife launches on January 13, 2027, anyone planning to play it on an older Windows install has a deadline that arrives first.
Requirements the DLC does not change
Afterlife adds a region and a dungeon to an existing client. It does not raise the graphics floor, and its store page does not list a separate hardware tier. That is consistent with a DLC that runs inside the base game's client rather than shipping its own executable.
That also means the DLC's real requirements are the ones you already meet to play Reforged: an account, a network connection, and a supported operating system.
A note on mobile specs
The mobile versions of Reforged are distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play, and each store enforces its own device requirements. The Google Play listing is the one with public numbers: 100K+ downloads, a 3.8-star rating from roughly 3,470 reviews, and an install path that includes Google Play Games on PC for Windows machines.
Those store listings are the place to check whether your specific phone or tablet is supported, because the Windows requirements on this page do not apply to them.
The practical upgrade advice is therefore about the operating system, not the hardware. A machine that ran Guild Wars in 2006 will still run it in 2027; a machine running Windows 7 will not be supported after November 18, 2026. If you are buying the DLC for an old desktop, budget for the OS before the DLC.
Checked 2026-11-05 against the Reforged Steam store page (app 29720) for the requirements block, and ArenaNet's Windows support notice published 2026-10-13.
