Pre-purchase $23.99 · Launches January 13, 2027 · Requires Guild Wars Reforged
Guild Wars Afterlife

Vestments of the Order

Quick answer

An ancestral costume included with the $23.99 pre-purchase, collected from the Costume Maker in four hubs after the serial key is applied.

The Vestments of the Order is the pre-purchase bonus for Guild Wars Afterlife: an ancestral-themed costume that ArenaNet describes as fitting the costume slot on your character panel and wearable over existing armour. It is included with the $23.99 pre-purchase, it is delivered immediately rather than on launch day, and it is the only part of Afterlife you can use before January 13, 2027.

It is also the part people get stuck on, because it does not simply appear in your inventory. The store page spells out a two-step handover: the serial key is applied to your account, then a specific NPC called the Costume Maker gives you the item. Miss the NPC and it looks like the bonus never arrived.

A costume, not armour

A costume in Guild Wars is a cosmetic overlay, not armour with stats. The Afterlife store page describes it in three sentences: it fits the costume slot, it can be worn over existing armour, and it is non-tradable. That last point matters if you were planning to move it between accounts — you cannot.

ArenaNet's theme for it is ancestral, matched to the Order of the Moonless Night, the faction that runs the Unformed. The Steam package listing separates it from the DLC itself, naming two items: Guild Wars Afterlife, and Guild Wars Afterlife: Pre-Purchase Reward. So the bonus is tracked as its own entitlement rather than a flag on the expansion.

Where to collect it

Four NPC locations are named on the store page. They are the main hubs of the three original campaigns plus the core PvP outpost, which makes them reachable for any account that owns Reforged.

The Costume Maker is the same NPC type used for other costumes in the game, so if you have redeemed a costume before, this is the same loop. The one difference is that the key comes from the Afterlife purchase rather than a standalone costume pack.

Because it occupies the costume slot, the item is cosmetic rather than mechanical. It does not replace armour, add attributes or change how a build performs; it changes how a character looks while wearing it. That is why the bonus is safe to hand out months early — a costume cannot unbalance a game that has not launched yet.

Why the bonus is delivered before launch

The announcement is direct about timing: pre-purchase at $23.99 includes the ancestral-themed Vestments of the Order costume today as a bonus. That word is doing real work. The DLC unlocks in January 2027, but the cosmetic does not wait, which gives the pre-purchase something you can verify on your account within minutes of buying.

For a player deciding whether to buy now or later, that is the whole argument. The discount saves $6.00; the costume is the other half of the incentive, and it is only attached to the pre-purchase package. Nothing else on the store sells it separately.

How to claim it, step by step

  1. Buy Guild Wars Afterlife at the pre-purchase price on the storefront where you own Reforged.
  2. Find the Pre-Purchase Reward serial key in your purchase confirmation or account page.
  3. Apply the key to the Guild Wars account you actually play.
  4. Log a character into Lion's Arch, Shing Jea Monastery, Kamadan or the Great Temple of Balthazar.
  5. Talk to the Costume Maker and take the Vestments of the Order.
  6. Repeat step five on any other character that wants one — each character gets their own copy.

The one failure mode worth naming: applying the key to a different account than the one you play. The item is non-tradable, so a key burned on the wrong account cannot be moved back.

What it means for the rest of the pre-purchase

The costume is not a preview of Afterlife's rewards. The DLC's reward structure is separate: ArenaNet describes run rewards that change future runs inside the Unformed and permanent rewards you can use outside Xotecha. The costume is a launch-window bonus for buying early, not a sample of that loop.

Buying mainly for the cosmetic, the arithmetic is simple: $23.99 now versus $29.99 later, with the costume included only in the first. If you are buying for the dungeon, the costume is a bonus you will collect once and then think about occasionally, and the discount is the part that matters.
